Demonstration of solar driven membrane distillation in remote Victoria
(Posted 26/2/2010)
Institute for Sustainability and Innovation/School of Engineering and Science Seminar Series 2010 SPEAKER Mr Noel Dow Institute for Sustainability and Innovation TOPIC Demonstration of solar driven membrane distillation in remote Victoria ABSTRACT This talk presents results from a successful trial of membrane distillation (MD) to produce water from saline groundwater in regional Victoria from solar derived energy. The objective was to demonstrate the viability of brackish water desalination employing a purpose built MD plant of sufficient size to meet domestic potable water demands of a single remote area dwelling. Much of the project was dedicated to constructing and verifying performance of a membrane module capable of meeting the water production target, followed by integration of advanced evacuated tube solar hot water panels to collect the required thermal input. The plant trial was conducted on-site in western Victoria in November 2009. WHEN Friday, 26 February 2010 TIME 1 – 2 pm WHERE Bldg 2, Level 1, Room 21.66, Conference Room, Werribee Campus, (Melways Ref 206 H5 and J6), http://www.vu.edu.au/About_VU/Campus_Maps/Werribee/index.aspx (enter via gate 1).
