HEALTHIER FOOD, TRENDS AND POLICIES
(Posted 20/1/2010)
HEALTHIER FOOD, TRENDS AND POLICIES: THE FUTURE OF PROCESSED FOOD. This Symposium will be held in the afternoon of Tuesday 23 February 2010 at The Menzies Hotel in Sydney, and features a line-up of top speakers not to be missed. You will be delighted by just how much vital information we will cover in the 4 hours! Those who attended our previous, very successful, Symposium on "Natural & Superfoods Claims" can attest to the usefulness of the session. In our program for the upcoming Symposium, the AFGC's Deputy CEO Dr Geoffrey Annison will present the recommended courses of action proposed by Australia's food industry leadership body for food companies to be taking, and will spell out the food industry's preferred options for government policy decision-makers. Mr Joe Lederman will elaborate on the new government policy initiatives and their aim to change the way food companies do business. We will explain how the Federal government and the States and Territories, in line with international developments (including World Health Organisation, Codex Alimentarius and moves by other jurisdictions), are changing food regulatory compliance requirements in a new context centred on Preventative Health policies. The Symposium will explain where food businesses can expect government intervention. Professor Martin Cole, the new Chief of the CSIRO in Food and Nutrition, will discuss the responses of his organisation to meet the required scientific outcomes and capabilities to address this new environment and what scientific developments are on offer for food companies. One of Australia's leading food nutrition scientists Dr Peter Clifton, who is the co-author of the top-selling "CSIRO Total Wellbeing Diet" and lead researcher with Australia's internationally-renowned Baker IDI Heart and Diabetes Institute and Adelaide University, will present answers to a myriad of important questions on what is really healthy and what is not, based upon his analysis of the latest relevant scientific literature. Dr Clifton's presentation is sure to provoke some controversy as he considers some of the key food nutrients and ingredients in processed foods, and mentions preferred substitutes for healthier outcomes. Mr Ian Alwill, who is Nestle Australia and Oceania's Group Marketing Executive Director, will provide a case-study of Nestle products complying with new standards with healthier outcomes, and the methods of response to local and international moves in various product categories. Ms Megan Cobcroft, who is Corporate Nutritionist and Dietitian of Unilever Australia, will present a case-study of Unilever's product reformulations to achieve healthier consumer outcomes. Mr Kieran Forsey, who is Senior Vice President, Private Label Management, of Agentrics, who are the developers of the software platform for supply chain management used by Coles in Australia, WalMart in the USA, and ASDA in the UK, will outline the benefits for food companies, through this new world-leading information systems technology, to improve product quality, traceability and healthier outcomes . All of these presentations will help guard your company against unwanted surprises in a new environment of greater government intervention - apart from giving you lots of ideas about new opportunities for improving the composition and marketing of your food products . I look forward to having you join us at the FoodLegal Symposium. Please let others know too. And another thing: If you register by 31 January 2010, you will be placed in a draw for a prize.
