GRANTS Dairy Innovation Australia Limited (DIAL) funds research with private research organisations, research institutes, universities and Government bodies. DIAL offers grants complying with the requirements of the Australian Competitive Grants Register via its scheme: Dairy Innovation Research Grants The DAIRY INNOVATION RESEARCH GRANTS Scheme will open on 17th October 2011 and close on 9th December 2011. Applicants are encouraged to submit Part 1 of the application as an Expression of Interest to seek feedback from DIAL prior to completing the full Application form. The closing date for submitting Expressions of Interest is 25th November 2011. Proposed projects should be targeted to provide research solutions in line with DIAL strategic objectives and priorities. • Catalyse the development of smarter manufacturing processes;• Identify technological opportunities for faster development of new products and new markets and • Enhance the technical knowledge base and innovation capability available to Dairy Innovation Australia Members and the Australian dairy industry Specific priority areas of interest for this round of applications are: • Extended shelf life of milk and fresh dairy products (eg; yogurts, custards and desserts)• New packaging technologies across the supply chain ( targets include improved sustainability, product quality, shelf life) • Use of novel membrane technologies in milk transport, preservation and for applying concentrates and permeates in dairy product manufacture • Waste management in dairy processing: - Technologies for reduction and reuse of acid whey - Technologies to reduce solid waste, packaging waste, etc - Technologies for the measuring, monitoring and modelling of waste streams. • Rapid testing methods for dairy product quality (eg: milk quality, processing quality and shelf life quality) • Technologies and reformulation strategies to reduce sugars and other additives in dairy products. Large and small applications are welcome. There may be more than one funding round addressing different priority areas in any given year.
